Bodywork during pregnancy is an integral part of caring for yourself and the being(s) inside of you.
They need space to grow. Our work helps create that space.

Our lifestyles affect the patterns in our musculoskeletal systems. Cars, couches, desk jobs, phones...our activities shape our bodies in ways that can create imbalances in the position of our pelvis, organs, and other structures, making it more challenging for babies to find a comfortable, head-down position for birthing. Even bodies of active people can carry the imprints of auto accidents, falls, and other traumas.
Our prenatal bodywork focuses on restoring balance and function to these structures, with the goal of creating more space for your baby, and a more comfortable pregnancy, and labor for both of you. Hip pain, back ache, pubic symphysis separation, and general aches and pains are often a sign that there is structural imbalance, and can often be addressed through this type of bodywork. Even issues like heartburn can sometimes be structural in origin and appropriate bodywork provide relief. Receiving regular bodywork starting early in the 2nd trimester is not only nurturing self care for you and your baby, it can help ward off structure-related discomforts and baby-positioning issues down the road.

What to expect during a Prenatal Session
Our sessions start with a thorough health history intake and structural assessment. This guides us toward the most efficient ways to work with you and your body. Sessions include both hands-on bodywork and movements/exercises that are specifically taylored to you.
If you are coming regularly throughout your pregnancy, there will be plenty of time to address issues as they arise, and also leave time for more traditional "relaxation massage" - a very important part of reducing stress hormones for both you and your little one(s)!

My Baby is Breech - what can I do?
First, try not to panic. You are not alone! And we are here to help you get through this, no matter what happens.
There are a number of reasons that babies assume breech positions, and there is no way to know the reason for yours with any certainty.
But often, it's structural. Babies like to be comfortable, and sometimes the most comfortable position is head up or sideways. Sometimes this is because of the position of the placenta, which can't be changed. Sometimes, we can make more space for baby to turn themselves upside down by mobilizing muscles and ligaments of your pelvis, spine, ribs, and other structures. As Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioners, we do this using a combination of gentle hands-on techniques and teaching you specific movements to do at home. The earlier in the pregnancy it is, the more room there is for baby to turn, and the more dedicated you are to doing the exercises (and sometimes this means NOT doing certain things,) the better baby's chances are of turning.
To learn more about what you can do to help your baby turn, we highly recommend the resources provided by the brilliant Gail Tully and the Spinning Babies® website.

Please Note:
As Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioners, we DO NOT manipulate your baby. Only doctors and midwives traned in External Cephalic Versions (ECV) are licensed to do this. We have observed, however, that success rates of ECV's can be higher if scheduled after receiving a session from us.
